Admissions Criteria for International Students
When making admission decisions, we consider the characteristics of the national system of education and the level of study completed.
Freshman Undergraduate Applicants (no college):
- 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- High school transcripts and graduation certificate
- or secondary school completion certificate
- or A-level exams
- or marks sheets and graduation certificate
- or secondary school completion certificate
Transfer Undergraduate Applicants (1 year or more of university work):

2.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Transcripts from all colleges and universities (or marks sheets)
Graduate Applicants (students who hold an approved bachelor’s degree):
- 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- The equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree from a university or college officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of the country of location
- OR a US bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited US institution
- OR a US bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited US institution
- Graduate school entrance exams are required, in addition to TOEFL, if the student is seeking entry to:
- Mental Health Counseling
- American Band College
- Computer Science
- Mathematics
- Environmental Education
- Mental Health Counseling
English Proficiency
Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English by achieving one of the following:

Southern Oregon University is lucky to be a host campus for ELS! Students who enroll at ELS and pass level 112, will meet SOU’s English proficiency requirement for both undergraduate and graduate work. ELS is the only language school that Southern Oregon University will accept for English proficiency.
