Admissions

Freshman Applicants

Southern Oregon University has a "rolling admissions," which means that you may apply -- and be admitted -- anytime throughout the admission season.  Most admission decisions are made within a very short time after the file is complete.  However, we ask for four weeks to guarantee a thorough review of the file.

Step 1:  Submit the Application for Admission

You may apply online, or print a paper application (PDF).  A $50 application fee is required.  The preferred application deadline is February 15.  There are many benefits to submitting your application by this date including timely admission decisions, financial aid consideration, housing options, etc.  Explore the admissions requirements for further details.

Step 2:  Submit SAT1 or ACT test scores

You should have your test scores sent to the Office of Admissions.  Our Standardized Test school codes are 4702 for the SAT and 3496 for the ACT.  These scores will be considered official if they are present on your official high school transcript.

Step 3:  Submit Official Transcript(s)

An official transcript of your high school work must be sent directly from your school.  If you have completed any college level work while in high school, please have the college or university send us official transcripts as well.

Step 4:  Submit Supporting Material

Applicants who wish to improve their candidacy may submit letters of recommendation, counselor recommendations, resumes, or similar supporting documentation.

Step 5:  Visit Campus

We encourage prospective students and their supporters to visit campus.  Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions offers preview events such as Preview Days, Transfer Days and Preview Weekends.  In addition, we offer campus tours on a daily basis.  To schedule a campus visit, please sign up online.

Step 6:  Explore Financial Aid

Visit the Enrollment Services Center for financial aid information.  If you're applying for need-based financial aid, make sure to complete and submit your admissions application to Southern Oregon University by Feb 1.  You can begin the actual financial aid process Jan.1, which is the earliest you may submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA should be submitted by March 2 to the Department of Education.  Our U.S. Department of Education Institutional Code is 003219.  Many scholarships are available by simply completing the Application for Admission.  However, there are additional scholarships available to new students who wish to complete the Southern Online Scholarship Application (SOSA).
